About Tom Mason

I have lived in Aberdeen for 43 years always in Rosemount/Queens Cross area and have been married to Kate since 1972. I have 3 grown-up children, one of whom is still in Aberdeen, employed in the offshore oil industry.

Educated in England and a graduate of King’s College London, I became a Civil Engineer by profession and have worked in the UK and then overseas for a number of years in West Africa. After obtaining an MBA from Cranfield Business School in 1972, I joined a construction group in their Corporate Planning Department. On arriving in Aberdeen in the early 70s, I managed an oil service company until joining Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen Business School in 1981 where I was responsible for building its MBA program. I was a senior lecturer with RGU for 26 years.

I now advise on Corporate and Market affairs, with a particular interest in China. I have also been closely associated with Quality Assurance organisations for Scottish Salmon Industry and Aquaculture, having been on their Certification boards continuously since the late 1980s. I am a Trustee of the Marketing Trust (a marketing research charity based in London).

In 1987, I became Grampian Regional Councillor for 9 years, representing Holburn and then, on the demise of Grampian Region in 1996, I spent two years as Councillor in Aberdeen District Council representing Queen’s Cross. More recently, I stood in the By-election for the City Council (Oct 2015) Midstocket / Rosemount, and in Aberdeen Central for the Holyrood elections in 2016.

I was also a Justice of the Peace for Aberdeen City for 20 years.
